Today, I'd like to tell you about the JAS office in 2017.
JAS relocated their office to Building 360, a historical building.
Marine Aircraft Group says on their website.
"Location 3: Building 360 was originally constructed in 1940 as part of the Japanese Imperial Naval Air Base. It is rumored that Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto signed the order for the attack on Pearl Harbor in the Crow’s Nest (third floor) of the building, but proof of this rumor is unsubstantiated. The building has been modified over the years and is no longer in its original condition."
I don't have any pictures of this building as prohibited taking any pictures in the base.
So, I will describe it using a picture from the Marine Aircraft Group.
The JAS office was located on the first floor, in the first room on the right after entering the building.
In my memory, the room next to the JAS office was used by the Girl Scouts.
You can see the Crow's Nest, which is on the top floor (3rd floor).
I checked out the meaning of the term; it's a place located at the top of a ship's mast where one can see everything below.
Actually, The room had large windows on three of its walls and I could see any places from the windows.
I often visited this room. One reason was that I loved it, and another reason was that JAS used the large space next to it as a warehouse.
Even though you can see some pictures here, I mentioned earlier that I have no actual photos.
Except for a picture from the Marine Aircraft Group, all other images were generated by AI.
To reach the warehouse, we had to navigate a narrow, steep staircase that only one person could fit through at a time.
This made it difficult to move items in and out of the warehouse.
So, staff members would stand on the stairs and pass items hand to hand.
Eventually, the warehouse was relocated next to the JAS office, making it much easier to transport items.
Building 360 was very old, but it had luxurious aspects. The hallway was lined with a thick red carpet, and as I walked, I could feel my legs sink into it
The previous office had no restroom, but there was one nearby, just down the hallway.
For the Japanese, it was surprising not only how strongly the air conditioner worked in the restroom, but also that there was air conditioning in the restroom at all.
This wasn't unique to this restroom; all the restrooms on the base were like this.
There was a meeting room on the 2nd floor where
JAS held monthly meetings.
It's said that a ghost would appear there, though I never saw it.
In 2018, Building 360 was torn down.
This was my favorite office.
